The Lords of the Pit and Eternal Central are proud to announce NoviceCon 2018, a charity Old School Magic 93-94 event in Chicago, on Saturday April 28 2017.
Tournament Entry and Prizes
The NoviceCon Old School 93-94 tournament will be held on Saturday, April 28 2018.
– Tournament start time is 11:45am (site will open at 11am for deck reg, card signing, and imbibing; plan on showing up a little early to do this).
– Tournament structure and length will be SWISS+1 (6 rounds most likely). There will be no draws allowed, and at the end of 50 minutes if there is a tied match both players will do a sudden death Chaos Orb flipping contest (complete details in our Old School 93-94 rules here). This is to keep the pace of play and keep the day going more smoothly than last year. Play a fun deck, imbibe, and have a blast with friends new and old!
– Prizes will again be awarded by the Lords of the Pit and Eternal Central, and will be Old School cards in flavor and nature, Alpha through Fallen Empires. This is a tournament for fun, and not ‘EV,’ so if you’re expecting to pay off your car with your winnings at this or any other Eternal event you will sadly be disappointed. We already have a number of goodies in hand, but if you wish to donate any cards to this please email eternalcentral@gmail.com.
– Tournament entry fee will be one (1) new toy, with tag or package still intact (suggested value $10-20). The charity that Chicago Old School will once again be helping is Cornerstorne Community Outreach (CCO). All toys collected will be donated to CCO for distribution to those children less fortunate.
Tournament Format and Rules
This tournament will be a special “Unified” Old School format, utilizing both 93-94 Old School and 95 Old School. Players will construct 2 decks ahead of time, and play a total of 6 rounds of Swiss:
3 Rounds of 93-94 Old School http://eternalcentral.com/9394rules/
3 Rounds of 95 Old School http://eternalcentral.com/95rules/
Unified Old School Split Format Rules
Unified Old School rules mean that if you shuffle your two decks and sideboards together, it could be presented as a legal 150[+] card deck. The totality of your two decks must follow the appropriate Banned and Restricted List, and must not include more than 4 of any other than basic lands. For example, if you include 1 Mox Pearl in one of the decks, it may not be included in the other deck, as that would be more than the 1 total allowed by the Restricted List. If you included 3 Tundras in one deck, the other deck may contain no more than 1 other Tundra (3+1 = 4, the total allowed between the two decks combined).
Old School Lending Library
We have now set up an Old School Lending Library, with tons of cards available for you to borrow for a specific day or event, ranging from Swords to Plowshares to dual lands to Field of Dreams to The Abyss. It can be found online here. Contact Jaco at eternalcentral@gmail.com ahead of time to arrange borrowing something.
