Editor’s Introduction: In this week’s Magic Oddica TheMisprintGuy looks at an interesting and rare printing error – extra card. Check out Chapter XIV of Keith Adams‘ Magic Oddica to learn all about these unique collectibles!
The shopper in us all wants a little something extra for our hard earned money. As Magic players, we’d love to get a few extra cards here and there. But instead of extra cards, what about extra CARD? This kind of thing happens now and again. In the recent past, I shared with you a fairly common error, which is cards that did not have properly cut corners. However, there are even stranger examples. In this case, I have an improperly cut foil card, a Pale Moon from Nemesis. It has an excess 1/4” at the bottom of the card as a result of improper cutting similar to the square cornered cards.
The cutting process had gone awry, resulting in this mistake. It is not obvious in the scan, but the area in which the card should have been cut, it is bent. This resulted in it being cut a bit lower. Dull blades, machine mishaps, or simply human error easily results in an infrequent card getting out into the public now and again. This is not something you see very often, but finding just one shows us that this can happen again. In each case, the cards and errors like these will be unique and different. Stay tuned for next week, as I will have something far more drastic and unusual along the same theme as this card but with far different and drastic results!
